Chinese supercars should not be made like this

Doing things and launching satellites, very few companies can complete these two actions at the same time at a press conference. And GAC Aian can basically do it every time.

On September 15, AION, a new energy vehicle brand under GAC Group, held a "Brand Night and China's No. 1 Supercar" press conference in Xiaomanyao, Guangzhou.

At the meeting, Aian released a new brand LOGO - "AI Shenjian", and launched the high-end brand supercar brand "Hyper" Haobo, as well as the first supercar Hyper SSR.

Regarding the supercar brand, Aian announced that it will cooperate with China Aerospace Corporation to jointly build the "Haobo Scientific Research Laboratory", using cutting-edge technologies in the aerospace field to create extreme products. These include new batteries, aerodynamic design, satellite remote sensing, and 900V silicon carbide chip technology "same as high-speed rail".

So much so that the colleagues of Xiao Yong, deputy general manager of Aian, raised questions: "If one more Hyper SSR is built, China will build one less high-speed rail?"

In Aian's narrative logic, this new energy "new force" company born out of traditional car companies has indeed done well recently. More than 350,000 vehicles have been sold in 3 years, with a compound annual growth rate of more than 122%. GAC Aeon, which is taking off in China's new energy vehicle market with surging new energy, obviously has new ideas for the market.

But behind the glorious achievements, there is a false fire that Aian and even GAC's own brand passenger cars cannot hide, and the embarrassing situation of lack of achievements in the field of smart cars.

What's more, whether it's the "China's first" SSR supercar, or the brand replacement of GAC Aian, it doesn't seem like that.

Super running SSR: China is unprecedented, the world's first?

Opening Aian's introduction to the parameters of SSR, a series of "satellites" are dazzling. Some of them read as follows:

  1. The Hyper SSR has an acceleration time of 1.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, making it the "fastest car on the surface".

  2. The "original two-speed four-in-one high-performance motor" can burst out "12,000 Nm of peak torque on the wheel", bringing 1.7G "a strong back-push feeling comparable to a rocket launch".

  3. The comprehensive horsepower of 1225 horses is 1.5 times higher than the standard of F1 competitions.

When measuring whether a car is a "real supercar", performance is obviously the only criterion other than cool styling. But only in terms of the three performance parameters that Hyper SSR has released, basically there are slots all over the place.

First of all, the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration of 1.9 seconds is not "fastest on the surface". As early as 2017, the Roadster 2.0 released by Tesla claimed to achieve a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 1.9 seconds. This electric supercar is equipped with 3 drive motors with a combined horsepower of 1500 horses. Of course, this car has been delayed several times, and the latest news is that it will not be available until 2023, just in line with the Hyper SSR delivered in October of that year.

However, about the "fastest on the surface", Aian still has too many questions to answer, and the first one is the top speed of this car. As we all know, electric cars without a gearbox can burst out the maximum power and torque the moment the accelerator pedal is pressed. To compare the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration performance of the same price, there is no doubt that it is bullying the fuel car. However, due to the heating problem of the motor itself, the motor of a general passenger car will lock the output time of peak power within 10 seconds.

That is to say, after 10 seconds of "floor electricity", the motor will "discharge" by itself. Especially after the speed exceeds 150 km/h, the power of the vehicle is no longer continuous. This is why the NIO ET7 has an acceleration of 3.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, but the top speed is only 200 km/h. In contrast, the Audi S3, which is 100,000 yuan cheaper than the former, has a top speed of 250 km/h. Therefore, how fast Hyper SSR can run at the fastest time needs to be released as soon as possible. After all, the Roadster 2.0 can claim to be able to drive up to 400 km/h.
